What to expect
At True North, we combine traditional psychiatry with an integrative, root-cause approach. Together, we look beyond symptoms to understand why you’re feeling the way you do.
-
A 90 - 120 minute initial visit focused on understanding your full story, including:
Current symptoms and concerns
Past mental health and medical history
Medications, supplements, and previous treatment trials
Sleep, stress, nutrition, movement, and hormone factors
Family history and genetics, when available
You’ll leave with an initial plan and clear next steps.
-
Follow-up visits to:
Fine-tune medications and dosing
Monitor benefits, side effects, and safety labs
Adjust treatment plans as life and stressors change
Integrate non-medication strategies (sleep, nutrition, movement, therapy supports)
Our style is collaborative, you have a voice in every decision.
-
Some clients arrive having already tried multiple medications without finding the right fit. Others are sensitive to medications, or know intuitively that something beyond brain chemistry is at play. This is where integrative and functional psychiatry comes in.
We look at the biological systems beneath your symptoms:
Nutrient deficiencies and metabolic patterns
Hormone changes in both men and women
Inflammation, gut-brain physiology, and stress response
Sleep, circadian rhythm, and energy regulation
The goal isn't to replace medication when it's helpful — it's to understand why you feel the way you do, and to give your body the support it actually needs.
-
Genetic testing offers insight into how your unique biology responds to treatment. Rather than trial-and-error prescribing, we use pharmacogenomic testing to understand which medications are likely to work well for you, and which may cause side effects or poor response. Beyond medication response, genetic and metabolic testing can illuminate why certain symptoms persist. We assess key pathways including circadian rhythm and sleep regulation, vitamin D metabolism, hormone pathways, histamine processing, oxidative stress, methylation (MTHFR), neurotransmitter metabolism (COMT, MAO-A, MAO-B), and genetic inflammation markers (APOE).
